Greenway Ouistreham <> Caen

Starting out from Caen’s city centre, reach the sea to the north via this safe route, heading along the pretty greenway set up beside the Orne River’s maritime canal. In just 1 hour and 30 mins, you can reach the Channel port of Ouistreham and enjoy its beach, its marina, its fishing port, its sea-water treatment centre and its seafront casino… Many visitors will also be interested in the D-Day landings that took place here in June 1944.

Greenway through La Suisse Normande hills: Caen <> Thury-Harcourt

This greenway offers you the opportunity of crossing La Suisse Normande’s hills by cycling along the bottom of the Orne Valley, thus avoiding the steep river banks. The greenway has been set up along the former railway line linking Caen to Flers. The way takes you through the bucolic Orne Valley countryside and is a delight for nature lovers. At points where you cross bridges over the Orne, stop to take in the lovely river views. In the near future, this greenway should be extended as far as Clécy.

This greenway runs along the Varenne Valley, following a former railway line. It allows you to avoid the hills and busy roads around these parts. You’ll spot the Varenne River on numerous occasions as you cycle along this stretch. The local heritage recalls the area’s mining past. The stretches going through traditional countryside offer a peaceful atmosphere for cyclists.

Greenway along the Mayenne Valley: Ambrières-Les-Vallées <> Mayenne <> Laval <> Château-Gontier <> Le Lion d'Angers

From Ambrières-Les-Vallées down to Le Lion-d'Angers, former stretches of railway line and towpaths have been converted for cyclists. The Mayenne Valley boasts an exceptional heritage and is regarded as one of the most beautiful French rivers on which to take a boating holiday. The towns along the way provide plenty of historical interest too. Visit the Château de Mayenne, parts dating back to Carolingian times, the Château de Laval, with its unusual Art Naïf museum, Notre-Dame-de-Port-du-Salut, an abbey indelibly associated with orange-rinded Port Salut cheese, and Le Refuge de l’Arche animal rescue centre in the town of Château-Gontier, an ideal place to go to with children.
